From our first period to our last, we're often left wondering, "Is this normal?" Menstrual health can be confusing, but you're not alone in your questions. We've compiled answers to five of the most common queries we hear.

1. Why is my period irregular? An "irregular" period can mean many things—a cycle that's longer or shorter than average (21-35 days), or one that varies in length from month to month. Stress, diet, exercise, travel, and underlying health conditions like PCOS can all be factors. Tracking your cycle with the Kavoda Flow app is the best way to gather data to discuss with your doctor.
2. What does the colour of my period blood mean? Period blood can range from bright red to dark brown, and it's usually all normal!
- Bright red: Fresh blood and a steady flow.
- Dark red or brown: Older blood, often seen at the beginning or end of your period.
- Pink: Lighter flow, or could be due to low estrogen.
3. How much period pain is too much? Some cramping is normal as your uterus contracts. But if your pain is severe, debilitating, or isn't relieved by over-the-counter medication, it's time to see a doctor to rule out conditions like endometriosis or fibroids.
4. Why do I get clots? Clots are a normal part of menstruation, especially on your heaviest days. They are a mixture of blood and tissue. However, if you're consistently passing clots larger than a 10p coin, it's a good idea to mention it to your GP.
5. What are the signs of my fertile window? Your most fertile time is the few days leading up to and including ovulation. You might notice changes in your cervical mucus (it may become clear and slippery, like egg whites) or a slight increase in your basal body temperature. The Kavoda Flow app uses your cycle data to predict this window for you.
